Direct numerical simulation of confined weak round fountains in homogeneous ambient

Fountains (negatively buoyant jets) are commonly used in numerous engineering applications, such as the natural ventilation buildings and smoke spread compartment fires. In this study, long-term behavior of weak round fountains homogeneous ambient confined a cylindrical container was analyzed using three-dimensional direct numerical simulation over range Froude number ( Fr ), Reynolds (Re), dimensionless radius ? respectively. The fountain behaves manner ‘fountain filling box’ flow, experiencing five development stages, i.e. , formation intrusion wall fountain, reversed flow stratification. Three stages bulk entrainment rate identified dominant mechanisms involved analyzed. = 1 2 approximate critical values to distinguish intrusion, Re 200 is determined value influence Re. These consistent with existing results about fountains.
